Money!:02 [Tokyo2020]

Hello.

Today, I will talk about money handling in Japan.

Now, cashless transactions are becoming common in many countries.
In japan, you can pay credit cards or debit cards at many department stores and supermarkets.
But, especially in the countryside, you can't pay by cards at many shops, restaurants etc.
Yes, cash only.
In Japan, cashless payments are not so advanced.

So, when you arrive in Japan, first, I want you to put some Japanese yen in your purse.
You can change to Japanese yen at the airport, or you can change at ATM.
You can usually withdraw from foreign currency deposits at ATM at convenience stores and post offices.

Also, if you are worried about carrying cash and plan to stay in Japan for more than a week, you may want to have one prepaid transportation card (Suica, Ikoka, etc.).
These cards can be settled in more places than credit cards (such as some vending machines, station stalls, and coin lockers).
Some cards have special cards for foreign visitors.
For details, please contact a train station counter.

Japanese money types include coins of 1, 5, 10, 50, 100, and 500 yen, and bills of 1000, 5000, and 10,000 yen.
(There are 2000 yen bills, but they are not in circulation)

And, one more.
In Japan, you don't have to pay tips at restaurants and hotels.

I hope you a happy trip.
Thank you.
